About The Company:
Our client is an established garden furniture and outdoor living business with a significant international footprint and a strong wholesale customer base. International markets are central to the company’s success, with around 45% of revenue generated across Europe and 30% from customers in the US. The business sources its product internationally and has developed strong relationships across its supplier, manufacturing and wholesale network. Supported by an experienced team, it has created a successful business with a well-established position in its key markets. They are now looking to appoint a Managing Director who can build on these foundations and shape its future direction.
The Role:
This is an exciting opportunity to take the lead of an established international business and play a pivotal role in shaping its next stage of growth. The Managing Director will have overall responsibility for the performance and future direction of the business, combining commercial ambition with effective day-to-day leadership.
Working closely with the Board and senior team, they will identify opportunities to grow revenues, strengthen market position and ensure the business is well equipped to achieve its longer-term ambitions. A key focus will be maximising opportunities across the company’s international wholesale markets while maintaining an efficient and commercially effective sourcing and supply chain operation. The Managing Director will also create the structure, accountability and culture needed to support continued growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive international sales growth, expanding the business through new customer acquisition, increased market penetration and development of existing wholesale accounts.
- Own the international sourcing strategy, ensuring strong supplier and manufacturing relationships.
- Build the capability of the wider team through effective leadership, coaching and development, establishing clear responsibilities, strengthening performance and developing future leaders within the business.
- Partner with the Board to set the strategic direction of the business, translating long-term ambitions into clear commercial priorities while maintaining strong financial and operational performance.
You:
- A strong track record of growing international sales, with direct experience of developing wholesale business across European and North American markets.
- Significant experience of sourcing and importing products internationally, including managing overseas suppliers, manufacturing relationships and complex supply chains.
- An experienced senior leader who has successfully managed and developed multi-functional teams, building capability, accountability and a strong performance culture.
- Commercially astute and financially confident, with experience of running a product-based, wholesale or distribution business and making decisions that balance revenue growth, margin and operational performance.
