We are seeking an experienced, compassionate and inspirational Ward Manager to lead our Hospice Inpatient Unit. This is a rewarding opportunity for a skilled nursing leader who is passionate about delivering outstanding specialist palliative and end‑of‑life care while supporting patients and families through some of life’s most important moments.

As Ward Manager, you will provide visible, professional leadership across the inpatient unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high‑quality care. You will play a key role in shaping patient experience, developing and supporting staff, and driving continuous improvement within a multidisciplinary environment.

About the role

The Ward Manager is responsible for the day‑to‑day operational and clinical management of the hospice ward. Working collaboratively with medical colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will coordinate admissions, care planning and discharge pathways while maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice and governance. You will lead and develop a dedicated nursing team, fostering a positive, supportive and high‑performing culture that reflects our organisational values and commitment to excellence.

Essential requirements for the role include:

  • You are registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Significant post‑registration clinical experience, ideally within palliative care, hospice care, oncology or a related specialty.
  • Proven leadership and management experience within an inpatient or community healthcare setting.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and commitment to delivering high‑quality patient‑centred care.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and decision‑making skills.
  • Experience of managing teams, developing staff and leading change.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, quality improvement and workforce management.
  • A compassionate, inclusive and collaborative leadership style.
