Purpose of the Role

To manage and develop a portfolio of clients through the delivery of high-quality accountancy and tax planning.

Responsibilities

  • Client Service & Portfolio management: Manage a portfolio of rural clients which will involve significant internal liaison, meetings with clients, approve technically robust tax computations, identify technical issues, deliver complex tax advisory outcomes, maintain technical knowledge, and provide exceptional client service in line with the Ellacotts Service Charter.
  • Technical Delivery: Demonstrate exceptional technical knowledge and deliver this to clients through robust, effective advisory reporting and guidance.
  • Team Leadership & Staff Development: Manage and develop the team, conduct reviews, provide feedback, delegate appropriately, and build a confident, technically capable team.
  • Operational Efficiency & Workflow Management: Drive process efficiency and technology adoption, oversee WIP and billing, maintain compliance trackers, drive team productivity through recoveries and chargeable output, ensure files meet quality standards, and support client onboarding.
  • Business Development: Identify advisory opportunities both within existing clients and new clients, support partners on complex client matters and attend external events to build personal and the Firms profile.
  • Firmwide Contribution: Collaborate with other teams and contribute to wider firm initiatives including best‑practice and technology projects.

Critical Knowledge Required

Core advisory areas may include, but are not limited to: Accountancy Standards (UK GAAP, FRS105, FRS102 1A), Income Tax, VAT, Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Trusts and Estates and HMRC Investigations.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA) and/or tax adviser (CTA) with exposure to a varied client base. Academically strong results in career to date. Strong interpersonal skills are required in addition to strong oral and written communication skills. A keen and insightful appreciation of the issues facing rural clients and an ability to deliver bespoke tax solutions to meet their needs. An ability to work as part of a team as well as on their own initiative. High level of analytical skills and a commercial approach to resolving issues and providing advice. May already hold an existing network of contacts.
