This immersive course takes place at the Dicker centre, which uniquely provides unprecedented access to the school’s own established zoo.
The weekly curriculum is structured for comprehensive learning, integrating 18 hours of specialist tuition that combines Animal Management and Zoology workshops with practical, hands-on animal care sessions. This approach ensures students not only gain deep scientific knowledge but also improve general English language skills, practice communication, and build confidence in public speaking within a scientific environment.
Specialist instruction is delivered by Bede's expert Zoo Managers and Zoologists. The focus extends into critical areas of animal welfare and ethics, animal health and disease, animal behaviour, and practical animal husbandry. Students look after a diverse range of zoo animals and contribute to active conservation efforts, such as the dormouse breeding programme.
