Elite Staffing Solutions are delighted to be partnering once again with WCI Group — respected specialists in water and wastewater engineering. WCI design and deliver high-quality off-mains drainage solutions for domestic, commercial, and municipal clients, and are known for their technical capability, integrity, and long-standing client relationships. With continued growth across their three core divisions, they are now looking to appoint a Drainage Engineer to join their expanding team in Wiveliscombe.

This role is central to developing effective drainage solutions across a wide range of civil engineering projects, covering sewage, surface water, and trade effluent requirements from early feasibility through to detailed design and construction support. This is a full-time, permanent position offering a salary of up to £50,000 depending on experience. Working hours are 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday. Hybrid working is available, with a minimum of three days per week in the office.

WCI also offer a well-rounded benefits package after probation, including health and wellbeing support, life cover, a competitive pension contribution, flexible holiday options, and eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

The Role

  • Contribute to the full lifecycle of drainage engineering projects, including:
    • Developing drainage strategies, feasibility assessments, and technical solutions for a range of domestic, commercial, and municipal schemes
    • Producing detailed drainage designs for construction, including foul, surface water, SuDS features, pumped and gravity systems
    • Preparing construction drawings, technical notes, schematic reports, and designer risk assessments
    • Completing flood risk assessments and supporting construction and commissioning activities, including setting-out information, construction details, and clash analysis
    • Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary design team — including architects, structural and geotechnical engineers — while also being able to work independently where required
    • Managing client relationships, defining project briefs, preparing fee proposals, and providing progress updates appropriate to your level of experience
    • Coordinating and delivering regulatory submissions such as planning applications, environmental permits, and other statutory approvals
    • Using MicroDrainage and AutoCAD for network design, modelling, and specification of water quantity and water quality features

Skills & Qualifications

WCI welcome applications from candidates with a range of academic backgrounds. While degree qualifications are traditionally associated with the Engineer route and HNC with the Technician route, they recognise that capability varies by individual — and many HNC-qualified professionals make excellent Engineers.

Essential:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar drainage or civil engineering role
  • Strong understanding of drainage design, SuDS, and water/wastewater systems
  • Good working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in technical work
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Experience of construction site environments
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of nutrient neutrality requirements
  • Experience with pumping station and rising main design
  • Understanding of sewage treatment processes

Qualifications considered:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent non-degree qualification

WCI are committed to professional development and offer mentored training towards professional qualifications with the ICE, alongside opportunities to gain further technical skills and accreditations.
