Our client, a leading food manufacturer, is looking for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead the company's Health, Safety and Sustainability function.
This is a key role responsible for developing, implementing and continuously improving the organisation's environmental, health and safety management systems, ensuring compliance, promoting best practice and supporting the delivery of the company's sustainability objectives.
The is a full-time role based on site in Gillingham offering a salary of up to £60,000 depending on experience, plus a 10% bonus and a generous suite of benefits.
Working closely with internal teams, contractors and key stakeholders, you will play a pivotal role in developing and embedding a strong, positive safety culture across the organisation.
A key part of the role will be engaging and influencing people at all levels, ensuring Health & Safety is understood, valued and embedded into everyday operations rather than simply being a compliance function.
You will build strong relationships across the business, providing guidance and support to help teams take ownership of Health & Safety and environmental responsibilities.
You will also work closely with the wider Health & Safety team to ensure a consistent and collaborative approach across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and continuously improve the company's Health & Safety Management Systems.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.
- Lead the development, maintenance and achievement of company certifications and accreditations.
- Manage accident, incident and near-miss investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented.
- Analyse Health & Safety performance data and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Develop and implement the company's sustainability strategy and environmental objectives.
- Work closely with contractors, suppliers and key stakeholders to promote safe working practices and environmental responsibility.
- Lead and support sustainability initiatives across the business.
- Facilitate, manage and deliver Health & Safety and sustainability-related projects.
- Conduct audits, inspections and risk assessments, ensuring any actions are completed effectively.
- Develop policies, procedures and training programmes to support compliance and continuous improvement.
- Manage, mentor and develop members of the Health & Safety team.
- Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organisation.
The successful candidate will have
- Previous experience in a Health & Safety management position.
- Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
- Experience managing Health & Safety Management Systems.
- Hold a health and safety qualification such as an IEMA/ISEP, NEBOSH
- ISO14001 or similar systems management experience
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage people at all levels of the organisation.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing or mentoring teams.
- A collaborative, solutions-focused approach with strong organisation, planning and problem-solving skills.
- A genuine drive to continuously improve processes, systems and outcomes.
