An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Buyer to join a rapidly growing Mechanical Building Services contractor based in West London. This is a newly created Senior Buyer position and a genuine opportunity to build and shape the procurement function rather than simply step into an established department.
Working closely with the Directors, Commercial Team and Project Managers, the Senior Buyer will take ownership of procurement across the business, developing a robust supply chain, negotiating commercial agreements and implementing the processes and procedures required to support continued growth.
This Senior Buyer role would suit someone who has built an extensive supplier network throughout their career and is looking for the opportunity to create something rather than simply maintain an existing procurement department.
The Senior Buyer Role
- Establishing and developing the procurement function
- Building and maintaining a preferred supplier network across Mechanical Building Services, HVAC and plumbing
- Utilising existing industry contacts and developing new supplier relationships
- Negotiating national and project-specific supplier agreements
- Negotiating pricing, rebates, payment terms, lead times and commercial terms
- Introducing procurement policies, procedures and purchasing controls
- Developing approved supplier lists and supplier performance measures
- Managing quotations, purchase orders, forecasting and deliveries
- Supporting multiple live mechanical projects
- Identifying value engineering and cost-saving opportunities
- Monitoring supplier performance and resolving supply-chain issues
- Working closely with Directors, Commercial Managers and Project Managers
- Creating scalable procurement processes to support the company's continued growth
About You - Senior Buyer
- Significant experience as a Senior Buyer, Procurement Manager or Purchasing Manager within Mechanical Building Services or M&E contracting
- An established network of UK mechanical suppliers, merchants and manufacturers
- Strong hands-on purchasing experience across mechanical plant, equipment and materials
- Experience negotiating supplier agreements and commercial terms
- Experience introducing or improving procurement procedures and controls
- The ability to manage procurement requirements across several concurrent projects
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
- A proactive approach and the confidence to build a function rather than inherit one
- Strong Excel and procurement/purchasing systems experience
