About Us

Elite Renewables is a leading provider of innovative renewable energy solutions across the South East. For 15 years, Elite Renewables has been delivering high-quality, high-specification projects for the UK’s leading builders, architects and developers. To date, we have delivered over 2,500 projects and worked with thousands of happy customers. We design and install cutting-edge systems for both high-end residential properties and commercial clients. As part of an ambitious, growing group with significant expansion plans, we are seeking talented professionals who want to make their mark in the renewable energy sector.

The Role

We are looking for a highly experienced Design Manager to lead our technical design department and manage a small team of junior designers. You will take full ownership of the design process post-sale, creating comprehensive, stage 4 designs for heat pump systems, solar installations, MVHR, and full M&E solutions. This is a senior, "plug and play" role. You will act as the primary technical authority for the installation teams, ensuring that designs are meticulously detailed to prevent on-site issues. You will triage design requests, manage the department's workflow, and implement robust Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes across all relevant RIBA stages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 3 design engineers, ensuring high standards and reviewing their outputs.
  • Take complete ownership of project designs following the pre-start handover from the technical sales team.
  • Lead and manage interactions with clients on D&E projects, working with them throughout from initial scoping through to stage 5 designs and adaptations.
  • Work with the Senior Leadership Team to improve and optimise design process workflows and ensure continuous improvement of the team, reporting directly to the CEO.
  • Manage the design queue and triage requests to ensure Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and project timelines are strictly met.
  • Produce detailed technical designs for renewable energy systems including heat pumps, solar PV, MVHR, and complete M&E solutions.
  • Calculate heat loss/gain and conduct room-by-room analyses for precise system sizing.
  • Create comprehensive system schematics and specification documents.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for site supervisors and installation teams to resolve technical queries, ensuring designs are practical and implementable.
  • Implement and manage BIM processes and ensure alignment with standard RIBA stages.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Proven experience in designing renewable energy systems, particularly heat pumps.
  • Experience working with customers (architects, Mechanical and Electrical consultants) to provide accurate and high-quality designs.
  • Senior-level experience with the ability to operate and communicate within a dynamic team environment by leading design interactions with sales and installation teams.
  • Strong understanding of BIM processes and a working knowledge of RIBA design stages.
  • Proficiency with relevant design software (AutoCAD, Revit, IES, EasyPV or similar).
  • Knowledge of UK building regulations and renewable energy standards.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical colleagues and clients.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail (crucial for eliminating on-site snags).

When applying, we are particularly keen to see examples of previous system designs that you have worked on - particularly if they involve heat pumps!

Pay: Salary £50-£55k plus commission. OTE £65k

Benefits: On-site gym, On-site parking

Work Location: In person, some remote work available (1/2 days)
