Are you an Intermediate Electrical Building Services Engineer with 3–7 years' experience, ready to take real ownership of your own projects?

We are recruiting on behalf of our confidential client, a growing Building Services consultancy based in Hull, East Yorkshire, for an Electrical Building Services Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis.

The role offers Β£40,000 – Β£55,000, a clear pathway to Senior Engineer level, and a live electrical project pipeline ready for you from day one.

Our client is looking to move quickly and would ideally welcome someone who can start this month, or as soon as their notice period allows.

Key Responsibilities

As an Intermediate Electrical Building Services Engineer, you will

  • Produce LV power, lighting, small power, emergency lighting, fire detection and alarm, containment and EV charging designs from RIBA Stages 2–5.
  • Carry out electrical load calculations, cable sizing, lux level calculations and distribution board schedules using industry software.
  • Prepare electrical specifications, schedules, drawings and design reports in line with BS 7671 (18th Edition), CIBSE Guides and UK Building Regulations (Part L, Part M).
  • Liaise directly with clients, architects, structural engineers, contractors and specialist sub-consultants.
  • Attend design team meetings and site visits across Hull and the wider East Yorkshire region.
  • Review contractor shop drawings, technical submittals and O&M documentation.
  • Support energy efficiency, Part L compliance, low-carbon and net-zero electrical design outcomes β€” PV, battery storage, EV infrastructure.
  • Mentor and quality-check the work of graduate and junior electrical engineers.
  • Manage your own deliverables, design programmes and fee awareness.

Essential Requirements

  • 3–7 years' Electrical Building Services / MEP design experience (Intermediate level).
  • Solid understanding of LV power distribution, lighting design, fire detection systems and/or small power.
  • Previous UK Building Services or MEP consultancy experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of BS 7671 (18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations), UK Building Regulations and CIBSE guidance.
  • Competent with Auto CAD and/or Revit MEP.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with confidence in client and design-team settings.
  • Motivated to develop your career within a growing consultancy.
  • You must already hold the legal right to work in the UK.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Building Services Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Working towards, or holding, IEng/CEng status (IET or CIBSE).
  • Experience with electrical design software such as Amtech, Dialux, Relux, Trimble or similar.
  • Exposure to BIM / Revit-led coordination workflows.
  • Low-carbon and net-zero electrical design experience β€” solar PV, battery storage, EV charging infrastructure, smart controls.
  • Prior UK MEP consultancy background (rather than contractor-side).
  • Full UK driving licence for regional site visits.
