Assistant Store Director – London - Contemporary Fashion & Lifestyle
We are looking for an experienced Assistant Store Director to join a high-profile fashion and lifestyle flagship in London.
It’s a large, busy store with a significant turnover and team, so we need someone who has managed at scale. However, the environment itself is fast-moving and constantly changing, so this won’t suit someone who needs lots of structure or a set process for everything.
We’re particularly keen to speak to people who have worked for founder-led, start-up or fast-growth brands, or who have been through periods of major change, new openings or expansion. You need to be comfortable thinking on your feet, making decisions and working things out as you go.
The Role
Working closely with the Store Director, you’ll take a hands-on role in running the flagship and driving its performance.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Leading and developing a large store team, including the management team
- Driving sales and keeping a close eye on the numbers, identifying where the biggest opportunities are
- Spending the majority of your time on the shop floor, coaching in the moment and setting the pace for the team
- Getting under the skin of performance and understanding what needs to change when results aren’t where they need to be
- Developing managers and identifying future talent within the store
- Managing performance confidently and having difficult conversations when needed
- Reacting quickly to changes in trade, customer behaviour and wider business priorities
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding and succession planning
- Working closely with the Store Director and wider business on new initiatives, launches and events
- Making sure strong operational standards are maintained without losing focus on the customer or commercial performance
What We’re Looking For
You could currently be an Assistant Store Director, Assistant General Manager, Deputy Manager or Store Manager within a large retail business.
Experience within fashion, streetwear, sportswear, premium or luxury retail would be ideal, but the type of environment you’ve worked in is just as important as the brand name on your CV.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has managed a large team and high-turnover retail business
- Can demonstrate strong commercial results and understands how to influence store performance
- Is a natural people manager and genuinely enjoys coaching and developing teams
- Leads from the floor rather than from the office
- Is comfortable making decisions and taking ownership
- Doesn’t need everything mapped out before taking action
- Can deal with change without it throwing them off course
- Is proactive when they see something that could be done better
- Has the confidence to work with senior stakeholders while remaining close to the day-to-day running of the store
