The Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced and hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the engineering function at our Healthcare site in Wednesbury. This is a key site leadership role with responsibility for ensuring our engineering operation is safe, reliable, efficient and continually improving. You'll lead and develop the engineering team while working closely with the General Manager and wider site leadership team to support operational performance and deliver the site business plan. In a fast-paced Healthcare operation where reliability and quality are critical, you'll take ownership of preventative and corrective maintenance, engineering standards, compliance and continuous improvement. This isn't just about keeping the machinery running. We're looking for someone who can lead people, improve performance and drive change.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead, coach and develop the site engineering team, creating a strong culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Take ownership of the site's planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programme, ensuring activity is effective, completed and continuously improved.
- Plan and coordinate engineering resources to support production requirements, corrective maintenance, machinery replacement and unplanned breakdowns.
- Oversee the installation, testing, maintenance and repair of site equipment and facilities.
- Ensure corrective engineering work is completed safely, efficiently and within appropriate timescales.
- Manage and develop engineering KPIs, using data to identify trends and improve site performance.
- Manage engineering budgets, forecasting and expenditure, investigating and addressing variances.
- Work with approved suppliers and contractors to source parts, machinery, surveys and specialist support.
- Support the training and development of engineers and operational colleagues on new machinery and safe working practices.
- Lead engineering-related continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency and environmental performance.
- Work collaboratively with the General Manager and wider leadership team to deliver the site's operational objectives.
What We're Looking For
- Proven management experience within industrial maintenance, manufacturing or a process-driven environment.
- Strong operational maintenance experience.
- Experience leading and developing engineering teams.
- A strong understanding of both planned and reactive maintenance.
- Experience working with boilers and steam systems.
- Experience delivering continuous improvement programmes.
- Strong health, safety and compliance knowledge.
- The ability to analyse engineering and operational data and turn it into meaningful action.
- Good commercial awareness, including experience of engineering budgets and forecasting.
- A relevant engineering qualification such as a degree, HND, HNC, NVQ Level 5 or City & Guilds, or a time-served apprenticeship with relevant electrical, mechanical or steam experience.
- NEBOSH, IOSH or other relevant QHSE qualifications would be advantageous.
