Collect, monitor, analyse and make recommendations on costs within the business.
Responsibilities
- Collect, analyse, and interpret data related to the costs of raw materials, labour, and overheads.
- Prepare detailed cost reports and present findings to management, supporting decision-making, pricing, margin assurance and strategic planning.
- Collaborate with departments across the business to ensure accurate cost allocation and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Conduct variance analysis between actual and standard/budget costs, investigating and explaining significant discrepancies, with recommendations to improve margin.
- Assist in the development and refinement of cost accounting systems and procedures to ensure clean, accurate data, resulting in usable reports and insights (e.g. using Power BI).
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations related to manufacturing activities.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes by providing reliable cost data and trend analysis.
- Monitor inventory valuation and assist with stocktakes and cost of goods sold calculations.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies and relevant financial regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Mathematics, or a related field (CIMA/ACCA/ACA qualification is advantageous).
- Proven experience in cost analysis, ideally within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data in a clear manner.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with ERP systems (e.g. MS D365, SAP, Oracle).
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
