To lead the business development, sales and proposal activities with assigned customers. For this interim cover role, the Key Account Manager will be specifically responsible for managing the relationships with Irish Water, Northern Ireland Water, and Scottish Water. This is achieved through building strong, long-term relationships with our customers - making sure we understand their needs, deliver value, and support their success every step of the way.
What you'll be doing
- To have an excellent understanding of health, safety and environmental (HSE) regulations. Ensure all company and customer HSE policies and procedures are followed and embraced to ensure a safe working environment.
- Act as the primary Key Account Manager for Irish Water, Northern Ireland Water, and Scottish Water, ensuring consistent engagement, proactive business development, and effective management of live and emerging opportunities.
- Travel throughout Ireland and Scotland for account activities, to lead meetings, presentations, site visits, and relationship development with customer stakeholders.
- Develop, maintain and enhance strong relationships with existing and prospective customers in the region to secure new business opportunities.
- Ensure both contractual and non-contractual commitments towards customers are achievable and that their expectations are managed appropriately.
- Analyse customer enquiries to extract critical technical, commercial, and strategic drivers — enabling us to shape solutions that respond to both stated needs and underlying objectives.
- Lead the preparation and submission of proposals and tenders, supported by the Tendering team, ensuring they address customer requirements effectively, whilst maximising price and commercial benefits for the Company.
- Maintain full awareness of customer business plans (annual, AMP and beyond) and how these shape their medium- to long-term infrastructure needs.
- Deliver insight-led presentations that demonstrate an understanding of the customer’s regulatory context, operational challenges, and investment priorities, showcasing how our solutions address those needs and differentiate us from the competition.
- Competitor analysis – understand and communicate the activities of competitors including but not limited to market sectors, products, customers, structure, strengths and weaknesses.
Who we are looking for
- Proven and credible track record in sales, business development, or account management, preferably within the water industry or related sectors.
- Experience selling engineering solutions to UK utility companies and / or associated Tier 1 contractors is preferred.
- Strong understanding of sales strategies, customer relationship management, and proposal development.
- Experienced in preparing proposals for technical solutions / services for customers.
- Experience in technical environments or engineering-related industries is an advantage.
- A solid grasp of wastewater processes, asset lifecycle challenges in the water sector, and the ability to interface confidently with technical customer stakeholders is strongly preferred.
- Recognised sales training qualification (e.g. Miller Heiman) preferred.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficient in sales forecasting and reporting, with strong analytical abilities.
- Previous experience using a CRM system in a sales role.
- Ability to travel extensively and adapt to varied work environments.
Additional Information
- Frequent travel within the regions the role is responsible for and occasional travel across the UK and Ireland is required.
- As a minimum visits to Head Office are expected every three months on a rolling basis (4 times a year), more frequent visits are encouraged to support with team building and healthy working relationships with colleagues.
- This is a home-based role, however we have office space available in Indian Queens, Wolverhampton and Wombwell for use as and when needed.
