I’m currently recruiting for an experienced Data Centre Team Leader to join a growing technology and infrastructure business, supporting a major client’s critical data centre environment in North Acton. This is a hands-on leadership role managing a team of 4+ Data Centre Operations Engineers, overseeing MAC (Moves, Adds & Changes), BAU activities, IT hardware deployments and structured cabling within a 24/7 environment.
The role:
- Continental shift pattern – 4 days on / 4 days off
- 12-hour shifts
- Overtime paid where required
- Site-based in North Acton
- Candidates should ideally live within approximately a 1-hour commute of the site
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading and supervising a team of 4+ DC Operations Engineers
- Managing MAC and BAU activities across the data centre
- Overseeing server, network hardware and rack installations
- Copper and fibre patching, SFP installations and connectivity testing
- Supporting break/fix, troubleshooting and daily data centre health checks
- Managing change records, asset management and ticketing systems
- Coordinating equipment moves, decommissions and disposals
- Managing third-party access, deliveries and vendor activities
- Supporting incident management and service delivery
- Training, mentoring and supporting new team members
- Leading shift activities and supporting projects from design through to handover
- Working closely with the client, Data Centre Manager and Service Delivery Manager to improve operational processes
What we’re looking for:
- Essential: previous experience working within a banking or financial services IT environment
- Strong Data Centre MAC experience, particularly IT hardware deployment
- Extensive structured cabling experience across copper and fibre
- Strong fault-finding and testing experience, ideally using Fluke equipment
- Knowledge of FTP, UTP and optical fibre cabling standards
- Proven team leadership/supervisory experience
- Strong understanding of asset management and ticketing systems
- Experience with complex change management and service delivery
- Experience managing third-party vendors and services
- Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working in a 24/7 operational environment
Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Network+, BICSI, CDCTP, CCNA DC or ITIL would be advantageous.
