About the Opportunity: A specialist engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Data Centre Telecoms & Network Design Consultant to support large-scale infrastructure programmes across EMEA. This role sits within a high-performance engineering delivery function providing design assurance, architecture support, and technical validation across complex data centre and cloud-integrated environments, including next-generation compute and AI infrastructure. You will work alongside senior engineering stakeholders, design authorities, and delivery teams to ensure infrastructure designs meet stringent standards for performance, resilience, scalability, and operational integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Centre & Network Design Assurance: Conduct technical reviews of data centre network and telecoms designs across full project lifecycle (concept, detailed design, construction, commissioning); Assess and validate spine-leaf, EVPN/VXLAN, and high-performance fabric architectures; Review cluster and compute fabric layouts for high-density workloads and AI/GPU environments; Identify design risks, non-compliance, and scalability limitations.
- Engineering Governance & Advisory: Provide independent engineering assurance across telecoms and infrastructure design packages; Participate in structured design review sessions with engineering and delivery teams; Support technical decision-making and change control processes; Produce structured risk assessments and technical recommendations.
- High-Performance & Cloud Infrastructure: Support validation of high-performance compute (HPC) and GPU-based infrastructure; Review high-speed network fabrics (100G / 400G / 800G environments); Assess hybrid and multi-cloud connectivity designs.
- Multi-Stakeholder Technical Support: Collaborate with procurement, construction, and cost engineering teams on technical feasibility assessments; Support vendor design reviews, technical submissions, and equipment validation activities; Provide input into operational readiness and infrastructure handover processes.
- Technical Documentation: Produce clear and structured engineering documentation including design review reports, risk registers, technical assessments and recommendations; Contribute to engineering standards and best practice documentation.
Required Experience:
- 10 years’ experience in telecoms, data centre networking, or infrastructure engineering.
- Strong background in large-scale enterprise or hyperscale environments.
- Proven experience in network and data centre design (not just operations or support).
- Experience across full delivery lifecycle (design through to commissioning).
- Multi-vendor exposure in complex infrastructure environments.
Technical Expertise:
- Data centre networking (L2–L4 design principles).
- VXLAN / EVPN and spine-leaf architectures.
- BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, VPN technologies.
- SD-WAN and hybrid connectivity design.
- Cloud networking (Azure, AWS, GCP, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with infrastructure automation (Terraform desirable).
- Experience with design tools such as AutoCAD and/or Bluebeam.
Highly Desirable Experience:
- Exposure to AI / GPU / HPC infrastructure environments.
- Experience in hyperscale or large enterprise data centres.
- Background in engineering governance or architecture assurance roles.
- Understanding of structured cabling and physical data centre infrastructure.
- Experience in consultancy or advisory-based engineering roles.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Able to critically evaluate complex technical designs.
- Confident in engaging with senior engineering stakeholders.
- Strong written communication and technical reporting skills.
- Able to operate independently in a remote consultancy environment.
