The opportunity

You'll be joining a growing, multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with an excellent reputation for delivering technically challenging infrastructure projects across the UK. Their maritime team is expanding, offering you the chance to work on an impressive portfolio while playing a key role in developing both the team and the business.

No two projects are the same. One week you could be inspecting port infrastructure, the next leading the design of marine structures or supporting large infrastructure developments. You'll also collaborate closely with specialists across rail, highways, aviation, water and temporary works, giving you exposure to a wide variety of technically interesting projects.

Projects include:

  • Ports and bulk material terminals
  • Liquid handling facilities
  • RoRo infrastructure
  • Passenger access structures
  • Flood defence schemes
  • Marine structures supporting data centre developments
  • Structural inspections and asset management programmes

What you'll be doing

You'll take ownership of projects from concept through to completion, becoming the trusted technical lead for both clients and internal teams. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the design and delivery of maritime engineering projects
  • Managing project programmes, budgets and technical quality
  • Mentoring and developing engineers within the team
  • Reviewing and approving engineering designs and calculations
  • Carrying out and overseeing structural inspections and assessments
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Supporting tender submissions, fee proposals and client presentations
  • Managing commercial aspects including project performance and change control
  • Providing technical guidance throughout project delivery
  • Supporting construction phase activities, contract administration and regulatory approvals
  • Promoting innovation, quality and best engineering practice across the team

About you

You're someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges while helping others develop around you. You're commercially aware, technically strong and confident building lasting relationships with both clients and colleagues. You'll ideally have:

Essential

  • Chartered Engineer (ICE or IStructE)
  • Around 8+ years' experience within Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Strong maritime engineering experience
  • Experience leading engineering projects and multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent knowledge of Eurocodes and British Standards
  • Experience reviewing and approving engineering calculations
  • Strong understanding of CDM Regulations
  • Experience managing project budgets, programmes and resources
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Desirable

  • Experience across wider infrastructure sectors such as rail, highways, aviation, water or temporary works
  • Commercial awareness including contract administration and financial management
  • Experience using structural analysis software such as Tekla Tedds, Tekla Structural Designer, MIDAS, Robot, LUSAS, Geo5, SuperStress or similar
