Salary on application
We are looking for a Data Centre Design Manager to join our clients' expanding engineering team in Spain. Málaga is rapidly becoming a strategic hub for Southern Europe’s digital infrastructure, and this role offers the chance to lead design excellence for mission-critical facilities during this period of exponential growth.
This is a hybrid role, offering the perfect balance between high-level engineering strategy and the Mediterranean lifestyle. You will collaborate with our global teams while maintaining a strong local presence in Spain.
The Role
As the Design Manager, you will be the technical anchor for our clients Spanish projects. You will oversee the design of Tier III and IV facilities, ensuring they are optimised for high-performance computing (HPC) and AI workloads while navigating Spain's unique energy and cooling requirements.
- Design Strategy: Lead the architectural and engineering design process (RIBA/Spanish equivalent stages), ensuring compliance with Spanish building regulations and Uptime Institute standards.
- Hybrid Leadership: Manage a diverse team of remote and local consultants, providing technical guidance on power distribution, cooling, and fire suppression systems.
- Sustainability focus: Implement innovative cooling solutions (e.g., liquid-to-chip or advanced evaporative systems) to maintain low PUE in the Andalusian climate.
- Ecosystem Integration: Act as our primary liaison within the Málaga TechPark (PTA), collaborating with local utility providers and government bodies to secure power and planning approvals.
Technical Requirements
- Engineering Qualification: Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (Chartered/Ingeniero Colegiado status preferred).
- Data Centre Expertise: Minimum 5+ years of experience in the design and delivery of large-scale data centres or industrial high-tech facilities.
- Language Skills: Professional fluency in English is essential for coordinating between international stakeholders and local contractors. Spanish is highly advantageous.
- Software Skills: Expert knowledge of Revit (BIM), AutoCAD, and CFD modelling.
- Local Knowledge: Understanding of the Spanish electrical grid (REE) and local permitting processes (Licencia de Obras).
What's on Offer
- Hybrid Working: A flexible model that combines office-based collaboration in Málaga with remote work options.
- Strategic Impact: Be at the forefront of Spain’s 2026 data centre boom, with projects directly impacting the region's digital transformation.
- Competitive Package: A salary commensurate with senior-level engineering roles in the Málaga tech sector, plus performance-related bonuses.
