Are you an engineer looking to move away from the tools, field-based work and unpredictable call-outs? Perhaps you are ready for a more structured office-based role where you can use your technical knowledge in a customer-focused environment?

I am recruiting a Product Support Engineer on behalf of a long-standing client of mine - a highly respected UK manufacturer of access automation, parking and access control systems.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking engineering business where you will provide technical support to customers across a specialist product portfolio.

  • Full product and system training will be provided, making this an ideal role for someone with a technical background who wants to develop their career in a more customer-focused engineering environment.

The Opportunity:

As a Product Support Engineer, you will become a key point of contact for customers requiring technical assistance. You will provide first-line telephone support, helping customers with everything from product queries and spare parts identification through to installation guidance, programming support and fault finding. You will work closely with the Technical Manager and wider engineering team, developing your product knowledge and becoming a trusted source of technical advice.

This is a fully office-based role, Monday to Friday, offering the opportunity to enjoy a more consistent working environment while still remaining close to engineering and technical problem solving.

Who This Role Would Suit:

My client is open to candidates from a range of technical backgrounds, including:

  • Electrical Engineers looking to move into technical support
  • Junior Engineers wanting to develop their career
  • Electricians’ Mates / Electrical Improvers
  • Mechanical Engineers
  • Field Service Engineers looking for a workshop/office-based position
  • Engineers with experience working within electrical, mechanical or automation environments

You do not need to know the products already - my client will provide all the training required.

The key requirement is that you have a technical mindset, understand basic electrical and/or mechanical principles, and enjoy solving problems and helping people.

Why Consider This Role?

Maybe you are:

  • Tired of sitting in traffic every day
  • Fed up with emergency call-outs and unsociable hours
  • Looking for more stability and work-life balance
  • Ready to move into a cleaner, warmer office environment
  • Interested in developing your technical knowledge further

If you have the transferable engineering skills, this business will invest in you and provide the training to become a product specialist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide telephone-based technical support to customers across the full product range.
  • Act as the first point of contact for technical enquiries.
  • Support customers with:
    • Product selection advice
    • Spare parts identification
    • Installation guidance
    • Programming assistance
    • Fault finding and troubleshooting
  • Prioritise support requests and ensure customer queries are handled efficiently.

  • Work closely with the Technical Manager and wider support team.
  • Contribute ideas to improve technical support processes and tools.
  • Maintain and develop product knowledge through ongoing training and self-development.
  • Deliver the highest level of customer service at all times.

About You:

You will ideally have:

  • A formal qualification or practical experience within an electrical, electronic, mechanical or engineering discipline.
  • Some experience working within an engineering, installation, maintenance or technical environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a logical approach to fault finding.
  • Good communication skills and confidence speaking with customers.
  • A willingness to learn and develop specialist product knowledge.
  • A professional approach with strong attention to detail.

The Package:

  • Salary: £30,000 – £35,000
  • Monday to Friday office-based role
  • Full product and system training provided
