The opportunity
You'll become part of a specialist rail infrastructure team responsible for inspecting and assessing a wide variety of Network Rail assets across the Southern region.
Every day brings something different. You'll carry out examinations of stations, depots, operational buildings and lineside structures, helping to ensure the safety and reliability of critical infrastructure while working alongside experienced engineers and surveyors.

What you'll be doing
You'll play an important role in delivering high-quality inspections and condition assessments across a diverse portfolio of rail assets.
Your responsibilities will include:

Carrying out visual, detailed, reconnaissance and monitoring surveys of rail buildings and structures

Undertaking examinations in accordance with Network Rail standards and inspection requirements

Assessing the condition of structures and identifying defects

Producing clear, accurate condition assessment reports and recommendations

Recording inspection data within Citadel and other reporting systems

Reporting significant defects and safety concerns promptly

Supporting possession works, including weekend and night shifts where required

Mentoring less experienced colleagues and sharing technical knowledge

Maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and quality across all inspections

Requirements
About you
You're someone who enjoys being out on site, has a keen eye for detail and takes pride in delivering accurate inspections that help keep Britain's rail network operating safely
You'll ideally have:
- Essential

Around 5+ years' experience in Building Surveying, structural inspections or rail asset management

STE05 competency
-
Personal Track Safety (PTS)

Good understanding of structural behaviour, construction methods and building materials

Knowledge of Network Rail Standards (NR/L3/CIV/006)

Understanding of CDM Regulations and rail safety requirements

Full UK driving licence
-
Strong communication and report writing skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office

Confined Spaces, Asbestos Awareness and Working at Height certification
