The GCOA are responsible for identifying and developing transformative innovation solutions and delivering and measuring business impact primarily in the form of productivity and efficiency to GBS Finance, Finance and other areas of Lilly.

This critical role converts business challenges and opportunities to a technology strategy that maximises technological adoption. The essence of the role is to maximise technology use by our business partners and to ensure that our delivery teams are using the best-in-class technology to solve enterprise problems robustly at scale.

This role involves challenging existing processes and policies to transform existing ways of working. This allows the GCOA to tailor solutions to meet the unique needs of Lilly, ensuring that the organization can effectively leverage technology to achieve its goals.

As a Data Architect you will be responsible for ensuring the availability and quality of data needed for analysis and business transactions.

This includes working with data scientists and engineers to create a deep understanding of the relevant data domains and relationships, modelling new and existing data in new ways to meet business needs, suggesting techniques for harmonizing disparate data sources and new approaches to analysing the data.

Data Architect will be responsible for the understanding of new data requirements and working in conjunction with the development team to build, test, document and maintain the data solutions that are both scalable and supportable.

The Data Architect should understand database solutions (Postgres, Redshift, Aurora, Athena) and formal database designs (3NF, Dimensional Models)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data/Information Vision and Strategy, which includes the ability to work with business to identify future uses for Lilly data and anticipated business results and enable processes to support these needs.
  • Develop and implement predictive analytics capabilities: Leverage advanced analytics techniques to extract insights from data, identify trends, and forecast future outcomes. This includes working closely with data scientists and engineers to build predictive models and algorithms that drive business decisions and strategies.
  • Drive the adoption of centralized dashboards for reporting: Ensure that data is effectively visualized and communicated through centralized dashboards, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions based on real-time data.
  • Develop and provide expertise in enterprise data domains; this includes data relationships, data quality, understanding of business data needs and the associated technology toolsets and methodologies.
  • Develop understanding how the enterprise data strategies, platforms, and technologies enable business execution. Use this knowledge to appropriately challenge status quo and drive business-IT collaboration.
  • Analyse data from multiple domains; discover trends and associations, synthesize new integration constructs that assist non-expert users to find similar trends and associations.
  • Extend publicly available data sets, ontologies and taxonomies for internal Lilly use.
  • Continuously scan the technology environment for new trends and techniques: interface with external consultants and thought leaders as needed.
  • Synthesize new scalable approaches for Lilly data integration; derive the supporting arguments, communicate and articulate the reasons for the new approaches to fellow engineers as well as senior management.
  • Work with Computer Systems Quality team to validate solutions.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, debug, and resolve technical issues.
  • Work in Agile Sprints with business facing project teams

Required Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related scientific discipline.
  • 7+ plus years of experience designing large scale data models for functional, operational and analytical environments (Conceptual, Logical, Physical and Dimensional).
  • 7+ plus years of experience in following disciplines: statistical methods, data modelling, data visualisation
  • Demonstrate SQL and data modelling proficiency.
  • Experience working with Fabric technology for application integration.

Beneficial experience:

  • Demonstrate ability to analyse large, complex data domains and craft practical solutions for subsequent data exploitation via analytics.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate with a geographically dispersed group of business and technical colleagues.
  • Experience working directly with business partners for requirement elicitation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and investigative skills.
  • Experience in applying quality and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with multiple database solutions (e.g. Postgres, Redshift, Aurora, Athena) and formal database designs (3NF, Dimensional Models).
  • Experience in AWS cloud-based data solutions.
  • Experience working with financial data (O2C, P2P, GA, Corporate Accounting)
  • Experience with Agile Development, Jira, CI/CD and GitHub.
  • Experience with security models and development on large data sets.
