Elgin Energy is seeking a dedicated Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Advisor to join our dynamic team, focusing on ensuring the highest standards of HSE throughout our project pipeline, from development to construction and subsequent energization.
Your primary responsibility will be to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, promoting a safe working environment for the company\ās workers, contractors, suppliers, consultants and other relevant stakeholders. This entails conducting thorough risk assessments and advocating for the adoption of the most efficient and safe approaches in alignment with legal requirements, codes of practice, and our organizational HSE system.
To be successful in the role, you must demonstrate proficiency and handsāon experience in managing HSE aspects within the renewable energy sector in the UK. Effective stakeholder management skills are paramount, as you\āll be tasked with fostering positive relationships with multiple parties involved in our projects.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement HSE documentation: drafting, updating, and implementing health & safety and environment policies and procedures in line with UK legislation, industry best practices, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
Provide advice and guidance promoting a positive HSE culture: offering advice and guidance to management, supervisors, and workers on health and safety matters, including safe work practices, equipment usage, and emergency procedures.
Plan HSE, including setting realistic short and longāterm objectives, deciding priorities and establishing adequate systems and performance standards.
Review HSE system performance: audit periodically the whole health & safety and environmental management system promoting continuous improvement.
Conduct risk assessments: identify potential hazards, implement control measures to mitigate risks.
Monitor compliance: regularly inspect construction sites to ensure compliance with health & safety and environment regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
Coordinate with Construction Project Manager to ensure contractors, subācontractors and/or agents carry out all activities in a safe and controlled manner in accordance with Health & Safety and Environment policies, CDM 2015 and related regulations.
Supervise the implementation and proper use of collective and personal protective equipment on site.
Ensure all HSE incidents are correctly reported, identifying hazards and associated mitigation measures.
Investigate incidents: investigate unsafe conditions, nearāmisses and accidents to determine root causes and recommend preventive measures.
Deliver training: plan and deliver health & safety and environment training programs for employees, including induction training, toolbox talks and specialised training for specific tasks or hazards.
Develop and implement emergency plans and emergency drills.
Liaise with authorities: serve as the primary point of contact for inspections conducted by regulatory authorities and ensure prompt resolution of any identified issues.
Participate in HSE meetings, internally and externally with contractors and suppliers.
Maintain records: keep accurate records of inspections, incidents, training activities and safetyārelated documentation as required by regulation and company policy.
Report Health & Safety and Environment KPIs on a monthly basis.
Qualifications
A relevant thirdālevel qualification in health and safety management, environment, engineering ā construction sector or a related field.
Professional certifications such as the NEBOSH General Certificate or IOSH Managing Safely.
Inādepth knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, regulations, and standards.
Knowledge of ISO Management Systems: ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
Minimum of 3ā5 years of Health & Safety experience within the construction industry, preferably on largeāscale energy projects or HV projects.
Experience in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations and delivering health and safety training.
Analytical and problemāsolving abilities to identify hazards and recommend appropriate control measures.
Attention to detail and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in communication, resource management and the use of software, particularly Microsoft Office suite.
Valid driver\ās licence for the UK.
