We’re looking for a Flexibility Market Design Manager to join the Market Design team at Elexon on a permanent basis. In this role, you’ll lead Elexon’s Flexibility Market Design capability, supporting the successful delivery of the Market Facilitator programme and the future development of flexibility markets across Great Britain. You’ll combine technical market expertise with team leadership, managing a team of flexibility market specialists while providing strategic and technical guidance on market design, governance, and industry change. Working closely with senior stakeholders across Elexon, Ofgem, System Operators, and Flexibility Service Providers, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of flexibility markets and ensuring Elexon delivers its Market Facilitator objectives.
What you’ll do:
- Lead and manage a team of Flexibility Market Design Advisors, supporting performance, development, and wellbeing
- Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise across Market Facilitator workstreams
- Lead and oversee flexibility market design, analysis, and change activities
- Support delivery of the Market Facilitator Delivery Plan, ensuring resources are aligned to priorities
- Develop and assess options to address flexibility market issues and industry challenges
- Provide SME support on the design, assessment, and implementation of Flexibility Market Rules
- Create and present briefings, reports, papers, and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders
- Engage with industry stakeholders, regulators, and market participants to influence and support market development
- Coordinate strategic responses to industry consultations and government reviews
- Drive continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and business excellence across the team
- Support the development of Elexon’s wider flexibility strategy and market design capability
What you’ll bring:
- Strong knowledge of flexibility markets, systems, and market processes
- Experience leading or managing technical, policy, or market design teams
- Ability to provide technical leadership and strategic direction across complex workstreams
- Experience analysing and developing solutions to market, regulatory, or operational challenges
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence internal and external audiences
- Experience working across multiple teams, functions, and stakeholder groups
- Strong presentation and communication skills, including presenting to senior stakeholders
- Experience managing competing priorities and delivering outcomes through others
- Knowledge of energy market arrangements, governance, and industry change
- Experience with business analysis, market analysis, or policy development
- Understanding of Flexibility Market Rules, Market Facilitator arrangements, or industry codes (desirable)
- Knowledge of government energy policy or wider energy sector developments (desirable)
