We have an exciting opportunity for an Energy Settlement Assurance Analyst (Grade 9) to join the Assurance Team on a permanent basis.

Team Overview: The primary function of the Assurance product within Elexon is to oversee the delivery of the Performance Assurance Framework (PAF). The PAF allows Elexon to ensure that any risk to the accuracy of data used for energy settlement purposes is managed and mitigated effectively. The Performance Assurance Teams, led by the Performance Assurance Managers, are responsible for the following areas:

  • The co-ordination and management of identified Settlement Risks by deploying Performance Assurance Techniques and additional assurance activities;
  • The identification of new risks to the accuracy of Settlement;
  • The delivery of Performance Assurance Techniques, deployed against all BSC Parties in an annual cycle of risk detection and mitigation.

Job Purpose: As directed by the Performance Assurance Managers, you will contribute to a number of assurance activities by:

  • Assuming the role of Risk Owner - leading the management of Risks that are allocated to you, including recommending which Performance Assurance Techniques or additional assurance activities should be deployed to monitor and/or mitigate them.
  • Assuming the role of Technique Owner – leading the deployment of the Technique that has been allocated to you, including reporting the results of your Technique to external committees, Risk Owners and other colleagues and managers within Elexon.
  • Creating data models and dashboards that display the relative information that you require in order to manage and monitor Settlement Risks that are allocated to you, at regular intervals as determined by the Performance Assurance Managers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse data relating to Performance Assurance Techniques and / or Settlement Risks in line with agreed processes, timescales and quality standards.
  • Document your findings and present them to the relevant decision making body in a way that enables them to reach decisions easily.
  • Complete Settlement Risk assessments using data and information collected from Performance Assurance Techniques and available industry data.
  • Develop strategies for reporting on and addressing Settlement Risks, including supporting the creation of a new Risk reporting suite.
  • Investigate how upcoming industry change will affect the Performance Assurance Framework and the Settlement Risks and Performance Assurance Techniques that you are responsible for.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the Performance Assurance Techniques and / or Settlement Risks for which you are responsible.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on the Performance Assurance Framework, Settlement Risks and Performance Assurance Techniques to expert groups, Panel Committees and their Chairs.
  • Contribute to and support the implementation of ad-hoc projects as directed by the relevant Performance Assurance Manager and / or Project manager.
  • Work with the members of the team on the delivery of ad hoc audits, which will involve but will not be limited to analysis of supporting data, site visits, and analysis of audit findings.
  • Ensure ongoing integrity of Performance Assurance Technique deployment and Risk management by creating and maintaining Local Working Instructions (LWIs) where required.
  • Provide secretariat support to BSC Panel Committees where required.
  • Proactively contribute to the Elexon business and the delivery of the department’s objectives by demonstrating the Elexon values.

Capabilities and Competencies:

  • Critical: Knowledge of the GB electricity market arrangements.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, and nonverbal, including written).
  • Ability to engage with and proactively build positive relationships with customers, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to write technical reports and to present complex information and data in a clear, concise and engaging manner.
  • A high level of personal integrity and professionalism.
  • Proficiency in giving presentations within a formal environment.
  • Well-developed skill in writing both technical and analytical reports, including data interpretation.
  • Developmental/ Desirable: Clear understanding of BSC Obligations, systems and processes.
  • At least two years of experience in the electricity market relevant to Elexon’s role.
  • Aware of the changes that are occurring within the GB Electricity Market and the potential impact that these changes may have on industry stakeholders and the BSC arrangements.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python and Power BI.
