We’re looking for a Data Architect (Grade 11) to join the Data & Analytics team at Elexon on a permanent basis. In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering Elexon’s data strategy and digital transformation initiatives, helping shape the future of data architecture across the GB electricity market. Working closely with senior stakeholders, product teams, and engineering partners, you’ll define and evolve enterprise-wide data architecture, governance, and cloud-based data platforms. This is a highly strategic and technical role, focused on designing scalable, modern data solutions that support analytics, machine learning, governance, and industry-wide data exchange.
What you’ll do:
- Define and maintain enterprise data architecture principles and standards
- Design and evolve cloud-native data platforms and architecture capabilities
- Own and develop the enterprise data map, including lineage and governance structures
- Lead the design of data models, solution blueprints, and architecture patterns
- Support delivery of data governance, MDM, and data quality frameworks
- Work closely with engineering and product teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Provide technical leadership across data platform design, implementation, and optimisation
- Review supplier and partner solution designs to ensure alignment with architectural standards
- Support performance tuning, troubleshooting, and cost optimisation across data solutions
- Contribute to industry-wide data and architecture initiatives with regulators and external stakeholders
- Promote a cohesive, organisation-wide view of data assets and operating models
What you’ll bring:
- Significant experience working as a Data Architect or Data Solutions Architect
- Strong expertise in data modelling, including conceptual, logical, and physical models
- Experience designing cloud-native data solutions, particularly within Azure environments
- Deep understanding of data pipelines, ETL/ELT, streaming, and analytics architectures
- Experience with Data Governance, Master Data Management (MDM), and Data Quality frameworks
- Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL data platforms
- Experience with API architecture and version control, including Swagger/OpenAPI
- Ability to design solutions supporting analytics, self-service BI, and machine learning use cases
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across technical and non-technical teams
- Experience working in Agile, cross-functional, and multi-supplier environments
- Exposure to BI, reporting, and data science technologies such as Power BI, Python, or R
- Experience within regulated environments or large-scale transformation programmes (desirable)
