About the role

Join Elexon as a Finance Operations Assistant. This opportunity is ideal for a candidate with previous experience in an accounting transactional role. Hybrid working and excellent benefits available.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Accounts Payable & Receivable Assistant (known as a Finance Operations Assistant – Grade 8) to join the Finance team on a permanent basis.

Team / Department

The Elexon finance team resides within the Finance & Commercial department which provides professional support services to Elexon including Internal Audit, Supply Chain Management and Finance. Overall, the Finance & Commercial department ensures Elexon drives cost efficiencies and that the company conducts its operations in a secure and controlled manner.

The finance team is responsible for both financial accounting and management reporting for Elexon. Financial accounting includes cash management for its operations as well as the production of statutory accounts for Elexon Group and its subsidiaries. The management reporting function includes timely coordination of the company’s annual budget and 3 year business plan, monthly cost reporting and financial analyses.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will work in the Operations team performing all operational finance processes including purchase ledger, sales ledger, general ledger, cash management, VAT and balance sheet reconciliations across Elexon Ltd and its subsidiaries. You will be part of a team responsible for all schemes administrated by Elexon Ltd.

You will use your skills and expertise to deliver effective operational performance and excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the effective operation of purchase and sales ledger functions
  • Data collection for set up of participants to new schemes administrated by Elexon (customers and suppliers) in the finance system
  • Assist with the monthly sales invoicing to industry and Section D related queries and processes
  • Perform Accounts Reconciliations
  • Manage monthly invoicing and respond to related queries
  • Manage timely collection of debts and default processes
  • Administrator of multiple Bank Accounts including bank reconciliations
  • Report timely monthly expenditure and forecast reports
  • Assist with the production of statutory VAT returns and national statistics returns
  • Maintaining finance systems as and when required within the reporting function
  • Contribute to the provision of financial information in relation to the year-end audit
  • Develop, maintain and update Local Working Instructions (LWIs)

Capabilities and competencies

  • A keen eye for attention to detail
  • Experience in a transactional accounting role, with a good understanding of key tasks or systems
  • Ability to work to tight deadline
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office (Specifically Excel & Word)
  • Proficient in the use of finance systems
  • Timely delivery of tasks in accordance with the Balancing and Settlement Code
  • Minimise late payments and defaults
  • Turnaround purchase orders and invoices, ensuring settlement according to terms and conditions
  • Either have or be enthusiastic to acquire a good understanding of the GB electricity market trading arrangements
  • Past experience in accounts payable, account receivable, treasury and reconciliations
  • Excellent communication skills to be able to positively influence stakeholders within the business
  • Be a strong team player with a positive outlook and prepared to learn and develop your skills set
