We have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Operations Assistant (Grade 8) to join the Finance team on a permanent basis.
Team Overview: The Elexon finance team resides within the Finance & Commercial department, which provides professional support services to Elexon, including Internal Audit, Supply Chain Management, and Finance. Overall, the department ensures Elexon drives cost efficiencies and conducts its operations in a secure and controlled manner. The finance team is responsible for both financial accounting and management reporting for Elexon. Financial accounting includes cash management and the production of statutory accounts for Elexon Group and its subsidiaries. Management reporting includes coordinating the annual budget, 3-year business plan, monthly cost reporting, and financial analyses.
Job Purpose: Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will work in the Operations team performing operational finance processes such as purchase ledger, sales ledger, general ledger, cash management, VAT, and balance sheet reconciliations across Elexon Ltd and its subsidiaries. You will be part of a team responsible for all schemes administered by Elexon Ltd. You will leverage your skills to deliver effective operational performance and excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the effective operation of purchase and sales ledger functions
- Data collection for setting up participants in new schemes administered by Elexon (customers and suppliers) in the finance system
- Assist with monthly sales invoicing, industry-related queries, and processes
- Perform account reconciliations
- Manage monthly invoicing and respond to related queries
- Manage timely debt collection and default processes
- Administer multiple bank accounts, including bank reconciliations
- Report on monthly expenditure and forecasts
- Assist with statutory VAT returns and national statistics returns
- Maintain finance systems as required within the reporting function
- Contribute to year-end audit preparations
- Develop, maintain, and update Local Working Instructions (LWIs)
Capabilities and Competencies:
- Attention to detail
- Experience in transactional accounting roles with understanding of key tasks or systems
- Ability to work to tight deadlines
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel & Word)
- Proficiency in finance systems
- Timely task delivery in accordance with the Balancing and Settlement Code
- Minimize late payments and defaults
- Efficient processing of purchase orders and invoices
- Enthusiasm to understand GB electricity market trading arrangements
- Experience in accounts payable, receivable, treasury, and reconciliations
