We’re looking for an ESA Technical Governance Group Market Design Advisor (Grade 12) to join the Market Design team at Elexon on a permanent basis. In this role, you’ll act as a subject matter expert in flexibility market standards and interoperability, supporting the development and governance of the Smart Secure Electricity Systems (SSES) programme. You’ll provide authoritative technical and strategic advice to the Technical Governance Group, ensuring the integrity, interoperability, and future-proofing of standards across flexibility markets. This is a highly specialised role, focused on device-level standards, information exchange, and technical governance, working closely with Ofgem, industry stakeholders, and standards bodies.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide technical and strategic advice to the SSES Technical Governance Group and Chair
  • Maintain and evolve the technical framework for ESAs, including the CLFCS
  • Review and assure technical proposals, standards, and documentation
  • Support the development and implementation of interoperability and assurance frameworks
  • Lead and contribute to market design and technical analysis work
  • Provide SME input on industry change impacting flexibility markets
  • Engage with stakeholders across standards bodies, regulators, and industry participants
  • Monitor and interpret global and European standards developments (e.g. IEC, ETSI, ISO)
  • Support development of consultation responses and engagement materials
  • Contribute to cross-team initiatives and provide technical leadership across Elexon

What you’ll bring:

  • Deep expertise in flexibility market standards and interoperability
  • Strong operational knowledge and practical experience of implementation of OpenADR 3.1, PAS1878, and related standards
  • Experience working with device-level technologies (e.g. EV chargers, smart heat, battery storage)
  • Understanding of information exchange, metering, and system integration standards
  • Ability to provide credible, authoritative technical advice to senior stakeholders
  • Experience working with regulators, standards bodies, or governance groups
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify risks, issues, and dependencies
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Experience in energy, utilities, or regulated environments
  • Knowledge of BSC, flexibility markets, or market design (desirable)
