We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Quality Analyst (Grade 9) to join our Data Products team. This role is central to maintaining the accuracy, completeness and reliability of settlement operations data that supports the smooth operation of the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC). Working across operational and enterprise-scale data platforms, you’ll play a key role in monitoring data quality, investigating issues, driving continuous improvement and supporting the delivery of robust and trusted data services across the energy industry.
Responsibilities
- Monitor key datasets and inbound files to identify missing, incomplete, late or anomalous data.
- Execute and maintain validation rules, reconciliations and exception-handling processes.
- Investigate data incidents and defects, perform root cause analysis and assess operational impact.
- Coordinate issue resolution activities with internal teams and external providers through to closure.
- Produce regular data quality reporting including metrics, trends, risks and recurring issues.
- Maintain auditable issue logs, operational runbooks and supporting documentation.
- Develop and enhance preventative controls and contribute to data governance activities.
- Use SQL and analytical techniques to profile data, validate fixes and identify data quality issues across complex datasets.
- Support automation of data quality controls and analysis using scripting languages such as Python.
- Work collaboratively with service owners and data owners to define data quality standards, thresholds and metrics.
- Support operational teams by ensuring settlement data is accurate, consistent and fit for processing and reporting.
- Execute controlled operational activities and manual workarounds while maintaining robust audit trails.
Qualifications
- Strong SQL skills with experience in data profiling, reconciliation and root cause analysis.
- Experience working with large or complex datasets within operational or enterprise environments.
- Understanding of data quality principles including accuracy, completeness, consistency, validity and timeliness.
- Experience writing and maintaining data quality checks, controls and validation rules.
- Familiarity with scripting or automation tools such as Python.
- Understanding of IT systems, infrastructure and operational support processes.
- Knowledge of service management principles and frameworks such as ITIL.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex situations and identify practical solutions.
- Experience documenting processes, controls and operational procedures with strong attention to auditability and governance.
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
- Experience working with batch interfaces, structured file transfers and operational data processes.
- Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- A collaborative and customer-focused approach aligned to Elexon’s values.
- Experience within the utilities or energy sector.
- Knowledge of data lake or data warehouse concepts.
- Awareness of AI or automation techniques for improving data quality processes.
- Experience with dashboards, management information reporting or operational metrics.
- Familiarity with secure file transfer tooling such as WinSCP.
- Experience working within data governance or enterprise data environments.
