We are seeking an experienced Senior Authorised Person (Mechanical & Electrical) & Operations Supervisor to join a modern power plant during commissioning and into commercial operation. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for developing and managing the site's Safe System of Work (SSoW), Permit to Work (PTW) system and mechanical and electrical isolation procedures. You will act as the site's technical authority for plant safety while leading the operations team to ensure the facility operates safely, efficiently and in full compliance with statutory requirements.
The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing operational excellence, supporting commissioning activities and embedding a strong safety culture across the plant. You'll have a strong operational background within power generation or heavy process industries and be passionate about maintaining the highest safety standards.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement and continuously improve the site's Safe System of Work.
- Own and manage the Permit to Work and Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) systems.
- Act as the Senior Authorised Person for mechanical and low-voltage electrical isolations (up to 415V).
- Develop isolation procedures covering steam, hydraulic, pneumatic, compressed air, process water and rotating plant systems.
- Lead incident investigations, safety audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Produce and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and operational documentation.
- Lead, mentor and develop the operations team, including Shift Technicians and Control Room Operators.
- Support plant commissioning, operational readiness and transition into commercial operation.
- Coordinate with engineering, maintenance and project teams to ensure safe and reliable plant operation.
- Provide technical leadership during emergency situations and act as Incident Controller or Duty Manager when required.
- Time-served apprenticeship in Mechanical, Electrical or Power Engineering.
- HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Formal Authorised Person (AP) or Senior Authorised Person (SAP) qualification with practical experience.
- Significant experience within thermal power generation, biomass, CHP, heavy industrial, utilities or similar process environments.
- Proven experience managing Safe Systems of Work, Permit to Work and isolation procedures.
- Experience supervising operational or maintenance teams.
- Knowledge of commissioning and operational readiness activities.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
