Role Description
The Key/Support Worker role is a full-time, on-site position based in the London Area, United Kingdom.
The Key/Support Worker will provide day-to-day support to young people in supported accommodation, helping them develop routines, life skills, and social skills in line with their individual care plans.
Responsibilities include building trusting relationships, offering emotional support, promoting independence, and assisting with education, training, and community engagement.
The role involves safeguarding, monitoring wellbeing, maintaining accurate records, and liaising with social workers, local authorities, and other professionals.
The Key/Support Worker will also contribute to household tasks, ensure a safe and nurturing environment, and participate in team meetings, handovers, and ongoing training.
Qualifications
- Level 3 diploma in Residential Childcare or the desire and commitment to work
- Experience working as a Support Worker or in a similar care/support role with young people.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people and colleagues.
- Knowledge of safeguarding practices and a clear understanding of professional boundaries and child protection responsibilities.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for reporting, record-keeping, and liaison with external professionals.
- Ability to provide practical and emotional support, including basic technical support related to everyday living (e. g., using online services, accessing resources).
- Relevant qualification in social care, youth work, or a related field (or working towards one) is highly beneficial.
- Understanding of the needs of looked-after children and care leavers, including trauma-informed approaches.
- Ability to work shifts, including evenings and weekends, and to remain calm and solution-focused in challenging situations.
- Basic IT skills for using care systems and completing electronic records; a valid DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
