We're supporting a large, operationally focused business in the search for an experienced HR Manager to lead Employee and Industrial Relations activity across a unionised environment. This is a senior, hands-on HR leadership role suited to someone who has operated within logistics, manufacturing, distribution, engineering, FMCG or another heavily operational setting where trade union engagement, organisational change and commercial decision-making are part of day-to-day life.
The role will lead on complex ER and IR activity across the business, manage a small HR team, and partner closely with senior operational leaders to support business performance, workforce engagement and change programmes. This is not a purely policy or case management focused role. We're specifically looking for someone with strong experience of working within unionised environments, leading negotiations, managing organisational change, and delivering TUPE and consultation processes.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead Employee and Industrial Relations activity across the business
- Build credible and effective relationships with Trade Union representatives
- Support and lead collective consultations, negotiations and workforce engagement activity
- Partner with senior operational stakeholders to manage business-critical people challenges
- Lead on organisational change projects including restructures, redundancies and transformation programmes
- Manage TUPE activity across acquisitions, contract wins/losses and operational change
- Provide commercial and pragmatic HR guidance on complex ER matters and employment risk
- Lead, coach and develop a small HR/ER team
- Support the development of management capability across employee relations and people leadership
- Use HR data and trends to drive proactive improvements and reduce risk across the business
- Proven experience in a senior HR or Employee Relations leadership role within a unionised environment
- Strong industrial relations experience including Trade Union engagement and negotiations
- Experience leading organisational change, consultation and restructuring activity
- Strong understanding of TUPE and employment legislation
- Background within operational environments such as logistics, manufacturing, engineering, FMCG, retail or distribution
- Able to build credibility quickly with operational leaders and frontline workforces
- Comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery
- Experience managing or mentoring HR teams
If you're an experienced HR professional who thrives in fast-paced operational environments and enjoys leading through change, we'd love to hear from you.
