An international engineering organisation operating within the rail sector is looking to appoint an R&D Engineer to support the development of specialist track components used across global rail networks. This role will focus on research, innovation and product development related to ballasted track systems, including under sleeper pads and under ballast mats. You will work within a collaborative R&D team to develop new products, improve existing solutions and support technical projects across the business.
Key Responsibilities for this role:
- Technical leadership and expertise within rail track component technology
- Producing and maintaining technical documentation, drawings and engineering data
- Leading R&D initiatives to improve product performance, cost efficiency and sustainability
- Developing new product concepts including feasibility studies, prototypes and testing
- Supporting product industrialisation including technical specifications and quality plans
- Providing technical support and training to internal engineering teams
- Working closely with operations, procurement, quality and application engineers
- Supporting supplier approval from a technical perspective
- Participating in industry or technical standardisation activities where required
What we are looking for:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or similar
- Experience within engineering design, product development or R&D
- SolidWorks for mechanical design (parts and assemblies)
- FEM / FEA simulation knowledge beneficial
- Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
- Knowledge of Minitab or statistical analysis tools is an advantage
Some travel may be required.
