Elevation Recruitment Group are supporting a well-established food manufacturer in their search for an experienced and proactive Hygiene Controller to join their facility in Rotherham. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong hygiene, sanitation, and team leadership experience who is passionate about maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, food safety, and compliance within a production environment.
Reporting into the Hygiene Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the site maintains exceptional hygiene and GMP standards while supporting operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives. You will lead hygiene activities across the plant, manage hygiene operatives, and ensure all cleaning schedules are completed safely and effectively.
Key Responsibilities of the Hygiene Controller include:
- Ensure all hygiene and sanitation standards are maintained across the site
- Coordinate daily and deep cleaning schedules in line with production planning
- Lead, support, and develop Hygiene Operatives
- Manage staffing levels, holidays, return-to-work interviews, and agency labour requirements
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety procedures and safe systems of work
- Maintain hygiene documentation, SOPs, risk assessments, and audit records
- Monitor stock levels of cleaning chemicals, PPE, and hygiene equipment
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across hygiene and GMP performance
- Work collaboratively with Production, Engineering, QA, and external contractors
- Ensure waste disposal processes comply with environmental standards and procedures
We’re looking for Operational Leaders with the following skills & experience:
- Previous experience within food manufacturing, ideally involved in hygiene and clean down activities
- Experience supervising or leading teams within a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of GMP, food safety, and Health & Safety standards
- Good organisational and planning skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-moving environment
- Confident communicator with strong people management skills
- Basic IT skills including Excel and data-based systems
- A proactive, performance-driven approach with a continuous improvement mindset
