Part-Time Financial Controller

Business: Steel City Interactive

Location: Sheffield, S9

Reports to: Finance Director

Direct Reports: 2 (Finance Assistant and an Assistant Accountant)

Contract Type: Part-Time (3 days a week - but can also be done over 4 or 5 days)

Based in Sheffield, Steel City Interactive (SCI) was founded in February 2020 by 3 brothers. The business was born out of passion for video games and boxing, with the ambition to create an authentic and exciting boxing game that does justice to the sport they love. What started as a fun prototype has grown into ‘Undisputed’, the first major boxing video game in over a decade. Since its release in October 2024, it has gone on to sell over 1 million copies, generating revenues of more than £30 Million to date. They have a professional yet relaxed, welcoming culture where everyone has a voice and is keen to share knowledge and expertise with each other. By working in collaboration with many incredible people and organisations across the boxing industry, they aim to bring an unprecedented level of detail and depth to a boxing game in Undisputed.

Role Overview:

They are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Controller on a part-time basis to lead their financial reporting and control environment, with primary responsibility for managing the annual external audit process alongside day-to-day account management and Business Partnering. The role is varied and would suit someone who has a background in audit with an interest in working within the wider business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of annual financial statements in accordance with FRS102
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all financial reporting
  • Maintain and enhance internal financial controls and accounting processes
  • Review and approve payment of invoices, travel expenses and royalties
  • Production of Monthly Management Accounts
  • Assist the annual budgeting process and use data and analysis to provide insight
  • Lead and coordinate the annual external audit process, acting as primary point of contact with auditors
  • Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and ensure resolution of audit queries
  • Ensure statutory accounts are prepared, completed and filed on time
  • Monitor changes in accounting standards, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Provide financial insight and analysis to support business decisions through Business Partnering
  • Maintain monthly budget files and reforecasting in-line with business requirements
  • Support with mentoring and development of other finance personnel in the team

Person Specification:

  • Professional accounting qualification (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in financial control, audit management, and statutory reporting
  • Strong knowledge of FRS102
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior management, auditors, and stakeholders
  • Proven track record of improving processes and implementing financial controls
  • Commercially astute and detail-oriented
  • Proactive, hands-on, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership and people management capabilities
  • High integrity and commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement
