This is a pivotal leadership role within the Operations function, with a strong emphasis on metallurgy, materials science, and technical quality assurance. This opportunity is ideal for a technically strong quality professional who thrives in a manufacturing environment and is passionate about driving quality performance, leading teams, and delivering continuous improvement.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Quality & Continuous Improvement, you will take ownership of the Quality Management System while providing technical leadership across materials, metallurgy, and laboratory operations. You will lead the Quality Assurance and Laboratory teams, ensuring robust testing, compliance, and process control, while acting as a key technical expert across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop and continuously improve the Quality Management System in line with ISO
- Provide technical leadership in metallurgy and materials science, supporting production and product integrity
- Manage and develop the Quality Assurance and Laboratory teams, including coaching and performance management
- Oversee laboratory operations, ensuring accurate mechanical testing and compliance with specifications
- Drive improvements through analysis of scrap, cost of quality, and customer complaints
- Lead root cause analysis and problem-solving activities across manufacturing processes
- Manage internal and external audits, working with regulatory and third-party bodies
- Ensure control of calibration systems and laboratory equipment
- Support new product introduction, including testing, validation and approval
- Maintain technical documentation, specifications, and SOPs
- Act as a key point of contact for customer quality issues and technical queries
- Produce performance reports and lead continuous improvement initiatives
About You
We are looking for a technically strong Quality leader with a background in metallurgy or materials science, who can combine hands-on expertise with strategic leadership.
Essential:
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a related discipline
- Proven experience in a technical quality role within manufacturing or engineering
- Strong knowledge of materials behaviour, testing, and process quality
- Experience managing Quality Management Systems
- Leadership experience within QA, laboratory, or technical teams
- Strong problem-solving capability using structured methodologies (e.g. Six Sigma)
