Elevation Tech & Transformation are exclusively recruiting on behalf of one of our key clients for an experienced and commercially focused Group Data Protection Officer to join their growing organisation in Leeds. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Data Protection professional to take ownership of group-wide data governance, privacy, and compliance strategy. The role offers the chance to work closely with senior leadership, influence business-wide policy and drive a proactive culture around data protection and information security.
As Group Data Protection Officer, you will be responsible for safeguarding data assets across the organisation, ensuring compliance with GDPR and wider data protection regulations, while supporting the business in identifying and mitigating risk. You will act as the designated DPO under GDPR, providing both strategic and operational guidance across the organisation and helping shape the future direction of data governance and privacy.
Key Responsibilities- Taking ownership of the organisation’s data protection and privacy framework across the group.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for GDPR and data privacy matters.
- Partnering with senior leaders across Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Operations to drive best practice.
- Reviewing and enhancing internal policies, procedures, and governance standards.
- Leading on privacy impact assessments and advising on risk mitigation strategies.
- Supporting investigations relating to data incidents and ensuring appropriate resolution processes are followed.
- Driving improvements around data retention, governance, and information handling controls.
- Keeping the business informed of evolving regulatory requirements and emerging industry trends.
- Promoting a positive data protection culture through training, coaching, and awareness initiatives.
- Managing and overseeing data subject access requests and wider privacy-related queries.
- Supporting supplier and third-party governance activities from a data protection perspective.
We’re looking for an experienced and commercially minded Data Protection professional who enjoys working collaboratively and influencing positive change across a business.
Skills & Experience- Previous experience within a Data Protection, Privacy, or DPO-focused role.
- Strong understanding of GDPR, UK data protection legislation, and regulatory expectations.
- Experience working within an FCA-regulated or highly governed environment.
- Knowledge of data governance, privacy controls, and risk management frameworks.
- Experience carrying out DPIAs and advising on privacy-related risks.
- The confidence to engage and influence stakeholders across multiple business functions.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Experience developing or improving compliance frameworks, policies, and governance processes.
- CIPP qualification or similar privacy certification.
- Exposure to cyber security, information security, or technical controls.
- Experience supporting contractual or supplier-related data protection matters.
