A growing and well-established UK-based payments business is seeking a Company Accountant / Senior Bookkeeper to join its expanding finance function.
The Role
This is a newly created position reporting to the Finance Manager and working closely with senior finance leadership. The successful candidate will play a key role in month-end reporting, team supervision (team of 1), and process improvement, while supporting the wider finance function. The role is based in Leeds, LS16 and offers hybrid working (3 days office/ 2 WFH).
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts
- Leading and supporting month-end close activities, including reconciliations, accruals and prepayments
- Supervising and supporting the transactional finance team (team of 1)
- Intercompany invoicing and reconciliations
- Month-end FX ledger reconciliations
- Supporting VAT processes and submissions (UK & Ireland)
- Preparing weekly payment runs across multiple purchase ledgers
- Managing debtors alongside the wider finance team
- Assisting with cash forecasting and margin analysis
- Driving continuous process improvement and ensuring policy compliance
- Providing ad-hoc finance support to senior stakeholders
Candidate Profile
- Experience within a fast paced SME business
- Previous experience supervising or supporting a small finance team desirable
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail
- Confident communicator, able to work with stakeholders at all levels
- Comfortable explaining financial information to non-finance colleagues
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities
- Experience with Sage 50, Xero, or similar accounting systems
- Strong Excel skills (intermediate to advanced)
