The role: Electrical Technician

Working Hours: Monday to Friday - Days

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000

As part of a multi-discipline team, the Electrical Technician will work closely with engineers and scientists in the development and testing of technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Setting up and preparing electrical systems, equipment, instruments, and materials for experiments, tests or customer systems, including design work.
  • Fabricating and maintaining electrical subsystems and components for test and customer equipment.
  • Performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of electrical equipment to ensure accurate and reliable performance.
  • Assisting engineers and scientists in conducting electrical experiments, tests, and research projects.
  • Collecting and analysing electrical data, measurements, and observations using electrical testing instruments.
  • Recording and documenting electrical test data and results accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Following standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and reproducibility of electrical experiments and tests.
  • Troubleshooting electrical issues and resolving technical problems that arise during testing and operation.
  • Assisting in the development and optimization of product electrical systems, lab procedures, and protocols.
  • Collaborating with team members to analyse and interpret electrical data.
  • Ensuring electrical equipment complies with safety standards and regulatory guidelines.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Level 3 Electrical Engineering qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC, NVQ, or equivalent).
  • 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations qualification (or equivalent).
  • 5 years of experience in electrical work, or 3 years of experience as an electrical technician in an engineering or laboratory environment.
  • Experience with maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting electrical systems and equipment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team of engineers, scientists, and technicians.
  • Familiarity with electrical wiring, circuits, and testing equipment.
  • Able to read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams.
  • Proficient in using electrical hand tools and testing instruments.
  • Experience with PLC control systems and data logging systems.
  • Experience working with hazardous gases and in ATEX-rated environments is a plus.
  • Safety-focused with a good understanding of electrical safety protocols.
