Senior Design Engineer £52-60k + package and room to grow further. Bespoke, specialist engineering for a global leader looking to attract top talent. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Design Engineer to contribute to innovative product development and technical solutions. The role involves overseeing design authority for projects, ensuring technical excellence, and collaborating across departments to meet customer and project requirements.

Job Purpose & Duties

  • Act as the Design Authority for projects, ensuring the delivery of technical solutions aligned with requirements.
  • Develop technical specifications from customer or product requirements.
  • Create design concepts to address specific functional needs, documenting assumptions, trade-offs, and calculations.
  • Evaluate design risks using techniques such as FMEA and select optimal solutions.
  • Plan and execute design activities in alignment with established New Product Development (NPD) processes.
  • Identify and manage technical risks and issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for project gate reviews.
  • Generate test plans to validate design concepts and overall system performance.
  • Coordinate with quality teams to define inspection requirements for components.
  • Provide technical support for creating product manuals, build books, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct peer reviews of technical content across projects and identify opportunities for intellectual property protection.

Skills, Experience & Knowledge

  • Proficient in CAD systems for generating models and technical drawings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with teams, suppliers, and customers.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently within and across project teams.

Experience

  • Formal technical qualification to degree level (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience leading technical projects and applying NPD processes.
  • Extensive experience in creating CAD models and drawings.

Knowledge

  • Principles and standards of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Material properties, machining methods, and configuration management for drawings and BOMs.
  • Expertise in sensor technologies, electrical drive systems, mechanical transmissions, hydraulics, pneumatics, and lubrication systems.
  • In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes, particularly in specialized industries.
