Control Systems Engineer

Do you have experience as a Control Systems Engineer or Controls Software Engineer within a medium to heavy manufacturing environment? Are you confident working with Allen Bradley platforms and passionate about automation, process improvement, and system optimisation?

We are looking for a talented and driven Controls System Engineer to join a dynamic engineering team. You’ll work closely with Engineering Management and Production teams, providing technical support, implementing system improvements, and driving continuous enhancement of service performance and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities as a Control System Engineer:
Lead and coordinate specified projects from order through to on-site installation and commissioning
Assist in the delivery of a range of projects, from process improvements to large-scale capital installations
Ensure compliance with relevant quality standards: ISO9001, BSE9100, ISO14001, ISO45001, and ISO17025
Develop and define project specifications, performance standards, and operational requirements
Conduct technical studies, review contractor bids, and prepare cost estimates
Manage external contractors, ensuring clear communication of scope, health & safety, and site practices
Provide hands‑on problem‑solving for maintenance and online process issues
Support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
Deliver automation and controls support to first‑line maintenance teams
Contribute to and support continuous improvement initiatives across the site
Accurately document activities and interventions within the CMMS system in a timely manner
Skills & Experience Required for a Control System Engineer:
HNC/HND (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
Strong PLC programming experience with Allen Bradley (Studio 5000) – essential
Experience with Mitsubishi GX Works is advantageous
Background working across various plant machinery, PLC control, and SCADA systems
Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks
Experience designing and specifying PLC‑based electrical control systems for bespoke machinery
Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving ability across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
Familiarity with instrumentation (pressure transmitters, electronic thermometers, flowmeters) and 4-20mA signal systems
