An exciting opportunity for an experienced Automation & Control Engineer to lead site-level industrial control systems (ICS) at a major manufacturing site in Sheffield. You'll be responsible for maintaining and optimising automated processes to minimise downtime and support continuous improvement across production.
Key Responsibilities as an Automation and Controls Engineer:
- Lead all ICS-related activity on site (PLC, SCADA, HMIs, electrical controls)
- Troubleshoot, program and optimise control systems (Siemens & Allen-Bradley)
- Manage ICS vendor contracts and service relationships
- Maintain documentation, backups, electrical schematics, and PPM systems
- Identify and manage obsolescence risks in control infrastructure
- Support CI initiatives, equipment upgrades, and project implementation
What we are looking for:
- Degree in Engineering or 5+ years’ relevant experience in automation/maintenance
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and SCADA (Ignition, InTouch)
- Skilled in root cause analysis, electrical schematics, and industrial networks (DeviceNet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP)
- Exposure to ATEX/DSEAR, PSM, or COMAH environments advantageous
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma or CI tools is a plus
