Our customer, a global company within the financial services and payments industry, is looking for a consumer credit and payments lawyer for a 1 year contract role. The successful candidates will join an experienced in‑house credit legal team and work closely with cross‑functional stakeholders across the business, including credit, risk, product, compliance, marketing, sales, and external advisers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on the launch and expansion of consumer and merchant credit products across the UK and Europe, revolving credit products.
  • Analyse and interpret European and UK consumer credit and payments legislation, assessing impact on existing products and supporting regulatory‑driven product changes.
  • Provide legal support on new product features, market entries, and complex regulatory topics.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external counsel to support business decision‑making.
  • Advise senior stakeholders and support marketing, policy, credit risk, and collections initiatives.
  • Manage ad‑hoc legal projects as required.

Candidate Requirements

  • UK and/or EU‑qualified lawyer with 5–7+ years’ post‑qualification experience, gained in‑house or at a reputable law firm.
  • Strong experience in consumer credit and payments law; structured finance experience is advantageous.
  • Able to work independently while integrating effectively within an established legal team.
  • Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills, with experience operating in a matrixed, fast‑paced environment.
  • Team‑focused, commercially minded, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
  • Fluent in English; additional European language skills are beneficial.
