Our customer, a charity operating within the medical research and fundraising sector is seeking an experienced Legal Compliance Counsel to join its in-house legal team.
Duration: 3-6 months
Location: Hybrid, 1-2 days per week in London
This role plays a key part in strengthening the organisation’s legal and regulatory compliance framework, supporting a strong culture of governance, risk management and ethical conduct across UK and international operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Legal in delivering the organisation’s legal compliance strategy
- Lead the development and enhancement of legal and regulatory compliance frameworks
- Monitor and interpret new legislation and regulations, advising senior stakeholders and risk owners
- Provide compliance and risk management advice across areas including fundraising, AML, fraud, bribery & corruption, safeguarding and ESG
- Review and improve policies, procedures, controls and training programmes
- Partner with overseas teams to support compliance with local laws, particularly in international fundraising
- Support serious incident reporting and regulatory engagement with relevant authorities
- Draft compliance-related papers for trustees, executive leadership and risk committees
- Collaborate closely with Risk, Assurance, Data Protection and ESG teams
- Assist with the provision of general in-house legal advice as required
Candidate Profile
- Qualified lawyer with strong post-qualification experience in corporate governance and compliance (in-house or private practice)
- Experience advising on regulatory and compliance matters, including risk management and policy development
- Charity or not-for-profit sector experience is desirable but not essential
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at senior levels
- Highly organised, able to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
