Our customer, a global SaaS company is seeking an experienced Employment Counsel to provide legal support on a contract basis for their rapidly growing teams across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). The successful candidate will be responsible for advising on a wide range of global employment law matters, with a particular focus on the EU (France, Germany, Ireland, Czech Republic, and Spain) and the UK. This role will support the legal and HR teams as they scale. Job Title: Employment Counsel, EMEA Hours : 5-10 hours per week Duration : 3 months (with the possibility of extension) Key Responsibilities: Provide legal advice and counsel on employment law issues across EMEA, focusing on EU and UK regulations. Draft and review internal playbooks, employee handbooks, and other compliance-related materials. Offer actionable, pragmatic advice to HR and legal teams, tailored to the risk profile of the business. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure legal practices align with HR needs and business goals. Offer burst capacity and responsive support to address temporary legal needs as the business builds new teams in international markets. Ensure compliance with local employment laws, including managing employment disputes and employee relations issues. Work independently and efficiently, gaining trust quickly from legal and HR teams. Ideally, contribute to establishing and improving new HR and legal processes in the EU region. Qualifications: 7-10 years of experience as a practicing attorney, with significant expertise in global employment law. A minimum of 5 years’ experience as in-house employment law counsel, ideally within a SaaS or high-growth technology company. Deep knowledge of EU (particularly France, Germany, Ireland, Czech Republic, and Spain) and UK employment law. Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within legal and HR teams. Experience standing up new motions or functions for HR and legal teams in the EU. Strong ability to deliver written work product that is clear, practical, and actionable. A pragmatic, solution-oriented approach to advising on employment law issues, with an emphasis on risk management. The ability to quickly build trust with legal and HR teams and adapt to fast-moving environments.
