We are seeking an experienced Construction & Commercial Solicitor / Senior Solicitor to join an established in-house legal team on an initial 3-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity to advise on a broad range of high-value construction and commercial matters, supporting strategically important projects across a national infrastructure business.
Working closely with stakeholders across procurement, commercial, operations and senior leadership, you will provide pragmatic legal advice, draft and negotiate complex agreements, and help deliver commercially focused solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Act as a trusted legal adviser to procurement, commercial, operations and other business stakeholders.
- Draft, review, negotiate and advise on a broad range of construction and commercial agreements, including:
- NEC construction contracts
- Major infrastructure and engineering agreements
- Supply and procurement contracts
- Collaboration and data sharing agreements
- Professional services agreements
- Service agreements
- Advise on contract interpretation, risk management and contractual disputes, engaging external counsel where appropriate.
- Support the management of framework agreements and prepare bespoke amendments to standard form contracts.
- Assist with the development and standardisation of contract templates and legal processes.
- Work collaboratively with internal legal colleagues and external advisers to deliver practical, commercially focused legal support.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the business, including senior managers and directors.
- Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales or Scotland with a current practising certificate.
- Approximately 5+ years' PQE, with experience gained in private practice or in-house (in-house experience is advantageous but not essential).
- Strong experience advising on construction and/or commercial contracts.
- Practical knowledge of NEC contracts is essential.
- Experience of public procurement or the Utilities Contracts Regulations would be beneficial, although candidates with a willingness to develop expertise in this area are also encouraged to apply.
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to provide pragmatic, solutions-focused legal advice.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and relationship-building skills, with confidence working directly with senior leadership.
- Self-motivated, adaptable and able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative legal team.
