As a core member of the league’s executive team, the Marketing Director will lead the global brand marketing strategy, digital storytelling, and fan engagement initiatives that position Rugby Sevens as the world’s most dynamic sport. This role will drive innovative marketing campaigns, immersive content ecosystems, and data‑led engagement models to elevate the league’s profile, accelerate commercial growth, and build a passionate global fan base. The successful hire will bring together brand, digital, broadcast, and experiential marketing in a unified strategy to set new standards for how sport is consumed and experienced. The key leadership role will work directly with the Rugby Sevens franchise competition Managing Director and closely with marketing leadership within the ownership group.
- Global Brand Strategy: Define and evolve the league’s brand architecture and positioning, and lead development of unified brand campaigns that resonate with key audiences and stakeholders. Launch an integrated global brand campaign that drives fan acquisition and league visibility.
- Digital Content & Fan Engagement: Own the digital content ecosystem – social, OTT, website, mobile – and oversee production of high‑impact storytelling, highlights, and fan‑first formats. Drive growth across digital platforms with tailored content strategies across regions, languages, and demographics, with a clear digital content roadmap that maximises player access, behind‑the‑scenes storytelling, and global virality.
- Data‑Driven Marketing: Leverage analytics to drive personalised fan journeys, optimise conversion, and measure impact of campaigns. Build performance dashboards to align marketing ROI with audience, engagement, and revenue goals. Deliver a multi‑platform fan engagement and loyalty programme, enhancing conversion and retention across digital assets. Establish KPIs and dashboards to evaluate growth in digital reach, engagement, and monetisation.
- Broadcast & Long‑form Content: Collaborate with broadcast and sponsorship teams to create integrated campaigns and partner activations, ensuring marketing and digital assets enhance commercial returns and strengthen league value proposition. Guide creative for broadcast intros, matchday promos, and player‑driven campaigns.
- Fan Revenue Management: Develop and execute direct‑to‑fan monetisation strategies, including the launch of ticketing and merchandise via web and app. Create personalised fan engagement, leveraging CRM and data analytics, and collaborate with commercial and operational teams to optimise tournament revenue opportunities.
- Campaign Management & Brand Activations: Lead the planning and execution of local and global campaigns tied to events, players, and new formats. Champion innovative partnerships in music, fashion, and pop culture to expand the league’s cultural relevance. Build and implement a partner marketing toolkit that aligns commercial activations with the league’s digital strategy.
- Team Leadership: Build and inspire a best‑in‑class marketing, content, and creative team with global perspective and elite ambition. Drive a culture of innovation, speed, and storytelling that empowers talent and partnerships across the ecosystem.
