We are seeking a talented and motivated Software and Electrical Engineer to join our team based in Kintore. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development, integration and maintenance of software and electrical systems across advanced ROV platforms operating in challenging subsea environments.

Working closely with engineers and technicians, you will be involved in the design, testing and optimisation of control systems, sensor interfaces and hardware integrations, contributing to innovative technologies used across a range of subsea applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and maintain software and electrical systems for ROVs, including control loops, sensor interfaces, communication links and hardware integrations.
  • Implement and support end-to-end software solutions for control systems, data acquisition and visualisation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, test, validate and troubleshoot ROV subsystems.
  • Develop and maintain software primarily within Linux environments (embedded and desktop).
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, valve packs and navigation hardware into ROV control systems.
  • Provide remote support and workshop troubleshooting, including root-cause analysis across software, electronics and network systems.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation including schematics, interface definitions, system diagrams, test procedures and software documentation.
  • Support the design and development of new products and technologies.
  • Work closely with the Lead Software/Electronic Engineer on project activities and deliverables.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of quality, safety and operational excellence.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar engineering role.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming and Linux environments.
  • Experience developing and maintaining software control systems.
  • Experience with front-end development or UI frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of software, electrical and hardware integration principles.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience with Git version control.
  • Experience with UI frameworks such as QML/Qt.
  • Familiarity with ROS/ROS2.
  • Experience with ROV control systems, robotics or autonomous systems.
  • Experience integrating sensors, navigation systems and industrial control hardware.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of projects from concept through to delivery, testing and optimisation.
  • Ability to evaluate trade-offs between software complexity, hardware limitations and operator usability.
  • Capable of working effectively under pressure and managing multiple priorities.
