At The Fractional HR Department, we provide practical, flexible HR support for small businesses and growing teams, giving them the expertise they need without the cost of a full-time hire. Our approach is simple, human and effective: clear advice, no-nonsense processes and HR that genuinely helps businesses grow.
We’re now looking for an ER and Projects Lead, someone who can confidently handle a broad range of employee relations work while shaping and delivering HR projects for SME clients. If you enjoy fast-moving environments, bringing structure to evolving situations, and building strong, warm client relationships, you’ll feel right at home.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead on employee relations for your own SME clients. You’ll provide clear, practical, legally compliant advice across disciplinaries, grievances, sickness, performance, redundancies and general HR queries, giving clients confidence and clarity when they need it most.
- Deliver and shape HR projects. From policy updates to small-scale restructures and process improvements, you’ll help clients strengthen their people practices in ways that are simple, scalable and genuinely useful, reflecting our ethos of practical, tailored HR support.
- Refine and maintain our HR tools. Our templates and resources are known for being clear, accessible and free of unnecessary complexity. You’ll keep them updated and continue developing them in line with our brand.
- Build strong, human client relationships. Most of your contact will be remote, so clarity, warmth and reliability are essential. Clients should feel like you’re part of their team, someone they trust to bring calm, expert guidance.
- Shape and strengthen our PAYG service line. Our PAYG model offers SMEs flexible, on-demand HR support. You’ll work closely with our founder to refine processes, ensure consistent delivery, coordinate Associates where needed and contribute ideas as the service grows.
- Design and deliver practical HR training. You’ll deliver manager-focused webinars on topics such as absence, investigations, performance and disciplinaries, always grounded in real-world SME challenges and current UK employment law.
About you:
- You’ll thrive with us if you have solid UK generalist HR experience with SMEs.
- Bring strong ER experience and enjoy leading on cases.
- Can deliver clear, structured advice even when things feel ambiguous.
- Have good commercial instincts and can shape scopes and quotes confidently.
- Communicate clearly and professionally, with warmth and human tone.
- Can manage multiple priorities without losing your calm.
- Enjoy working independently but value collaboration and shared standards.
- Are confident designing and delivering training.
- Experience in a consultancy is a bonus but not essential.
