Most Design Engineer ads read the same. Here's what's actually on offer:
You'd be joining a Norwich based engineering business that designs kit for the offshore energy world. Not just oil and gas. They're doing serious work in carbon capture, offshore wind, and hydrogen too, which means the projects landing on your desk genuinely matter for where the industry is heading.
The role itself is hands on. You'd own your own design tasks end to end: concept, calculations, FEA, CAD (2D and 3D), URS documents, design packs, third party reviews, the lot. You'd chair your own design reviews and be trusted to make calls without someone reading over your shoulder. If you've worked somewhere that bottlenecks every decision through three layers of management, this won't be that.
Topside and subsea experience is what they need. If you've spent time designing for harsh environments, can run the numbers and back them up, and you actually enjoy the bit where a problem doesn't have an obvious answer, you'll do well here.
The honest bits:
- It's office based in Norwich. Not hybrid, not remote.
- Salary goes up to £40k for the right person. Not the highest in the market, but the work and the team make up a lot of ground.
- You need the unrestricted right to work in the UK.
What comes with it:
- Private healthcare
- Matching pension
- 4x life cover
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (buy more if you want)
- EV scheme
- Cycle to work
- Reduced gym
- A real commitment to CPD.
