If you’re producing drawings that actually get built, not just issued, and you’re frustrated by unclear scopes, late changes, or constant rework, this role should be relevant.
This is a CAD Designer position within a specialist architectural metalwork environment, focused on fabrication-ready 3D models rather than concept design.
What the role actually involves:
- Producing accurate 3D CAD models for architectural metalwork projects, from initial drawings through to fabrication and installation support.
- Modelling staircases, balustrades, canopies, cladding and bespoke metalwork.
- Interpreting architectural and structural drawings and turning them into buildable designs.
- Working closely with project, engineering and production teams to resolve technical issues early.
- Updating models and drawings as projects develop, with proper version control.
- Producing outputs that align with fabrication tolerances, standards and site realities.
You’ll also support production teams with drawing clarifications and technical queries when needed.
What’s different here:
- Design is expected to be fabrication-ready, not theoretical.
- Accuracy and buildability matter more than drawing volume.
- You’re working directly with people who fabricate and install what you design.
- Clear technical standards and drawing protocols are in place.
What this will suit:
This role suits someone already designing within architectural metalwork or a closely related fabrication environment. You’re likely to fit if you:
- Are comfortable producing detailed 3D models for manufacture.
- Understand how drawings translate into real fabrication and installation.
- Care about accuracy, tolerances and buildability.
- Can manage your own workload and flag issues early.
